Mentor vs Coach

These readings reminded me of my mentor during my first year of teaching. The numerous amounts of emails received in a day and the large classes filled with students caused much anxiety for me during the first week. My mentor provided so much emotional support for me and used his past experiences to alleviate the chaotic scene of a school at times. I found it extremely relatable when Grossman & Davis  (2012), stated "Most mentoring seems to focus on providing emotional support, helping teachers navigate the challenges of the first year of teaching" (p. 2). I also witnessed a first year teacher in our high school leave in less than two weeks. Response To Intervention (RTI)

Both articles are similar in their understanding that RTI is a way of effectively intervening immediately if students are in need of assistance. Buffum (2010) article differs also from  Searle (2010)   by e xplaining more on how districts view RTI and how many are seeing it from the perspective of doing it only because we must be “legally compliant with the law ” (Buffum et al., 2010).  Buffum (2010)   article also focuses mainly on the solutions to districts finding the right reasons to implement this program.   Searle (2010)  goes more into depth on how to implement this program and what specific things need to be done by using the three-tiered pyramid.   While reading these articles, it has become apparent to me that there are a variety of ways to help students succeed. We have this program at our high school, but its ...

Classmates,           A school system is a complex machine that requires various mechanics to operate efficiently. Each position plays a pivotal role in developing a student's academic ability. Building various opportunities for teachers to collaborate and hone in on innovative techniques that can be effective for classroom instruction. They "capitalize   on their teacher's skills and talents for the benefit of their students." Grove, K. (2002) . This leadership leads us to the building of a curriculum that is adaptable to all students. By creating a high level of communication with lead teachers and principals, supervisors can create a positive change within the student body. Sco...
